Stop caring what the world thinks, spread your wings and fly.
ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece came to me while I was in a productive phase and wanting to create something more permanent than music, something simple to decorate my home with.
I firmly believe that the only thing holding you back is yourself. If you really want to achieve something – anything – a sort of drive and dedication can make dreams come true.
I am not a great ‘artist’, I have limited technique when it comes to painting or drawing and so I stick with simple motifs. But art is more than just technique, it’s about the message.
The message is: Anyone can do it. You can paint, start with 2 colors and something simple.
I’ve always loved silhouettes of telephone / electrical poles. I was watching Sam Esmail’s “Leave The World Behind” when I saw a photo on social media which really stood out to me. Something clicked and I knew what I had to do.

Just Do It
These cardboard pieces came with some furniture, I can’t remember if it was our bed or the TVs but I wanted to keep them to do art. They lived behind our bookshelf until I pulled this out.
Combined with cheap acrylic paint from various colmados and a beginner brush set from Walmart (including a separate 1″ brush from Home Depot because I know what I’m about.)
SYMBOLISM
This piece is rife with intentional symbolism.
OLD VS NEW
The telephone pole resembles a cross, and the bird flying away the Holy Spirit.
I believe that the work of Christ was completed; too many focus on His work, instead of welcoming the Spirit we have been given to move forward with. (John 16:7)
On the right, we have the old paradigm – a crowd of crows and a solitary one, the crowd representing the generic group of humanity and the single representing outcast. The colors are dark, shadowy. On the left, we have the new paradigm – a couple of lovebirds (much closer than the crowd) and a single bird flying away, spreading it’s wings and being free.
Also, the blue / yellow resembles the Ukraine flag colors, so the black could represent the agression of Russia and the left the peaceful wishes for Ukraine.
In the middle where the wires cross indicate a paradigm shift.
When looking at where two parallel wires appear to cross will change depending on where you stand, it’s a trick of the eye (tromp d’oelil).
The wires are a downward arc on the right; and begin an upward arc on the left, symbolizing growth and upward change.
